The Magma is a model that embodies what Contador and Basso sought throughout their careers: speed that dominates everywhere. After retiring from professional racing, they devoted much of their time to this project, and it was born from their experiences.
The Magma is agile, light, and fast. But Contador and Basso knew from the start that it was important to strike a balance in handling. At the same time, it needed to be comfortable and compliant enough for long rides, yet stiff enough to avoid losing power on climbs. The front end's responsiveness allows it to track its line precisely through corners, while also providing stability and confidence on high-speed descents.
This special frameset is the culmination of a long period of hard work.
It took us countless hours of testing and development to get to this point, making small adjustments and thinking about how we could make it better than any bike we rode as a pro.

To achieve a bike that meets all of these demanding criteria for perfectly balanced performance, the Magma's frame geometry is paramount - it's no exaggeration to say that it's the frame's soul. Ruberto and Yvan had dreamed for years of designing a bike's frame geometry based on their experience, and it was paramount that all frame sizes handle the same.
Alberto and Ivan had dreamed for years of designing a bicycle frame geometry based on their experience, and their primary concern was ensuring that all frame sizes would have the same handling. To achieve this, the trail figure (a combination of head tube angle and fork offset) was the starting point. Through experience and ride tests (testing various forks and wheel sizes), the AURUM team determined the ideal trail dimension to achieve the best balance between quick steering and stability at high speeds. Often, smaller frame sizes result in a longer trail, which makes handling sluggish. The AURUM Magma uses two different fork offsets depending on the frame size. This, combined with the appropriate head tube angle, ensures that even smaller frame sizes offer predictable handling and a fun ride.
The well-thought-out stack and reach provide race performance while also providing comfort on long rides, the short, oversized chainstays benefit climbers, the low bottom bracket height stabilizes the center of gravity, and the optimal wheelbase length provides confidence on descents.
Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso believe that to perform at their best, they need to convert the maximum amount of power they generate into forward momentum, and they achieve this by controlling the frame's stiffness in the right places.
The Magma is designed with high lateral stiffness around the bottom bracket to maintain high speeds when dancing up climbs, and high torsional stiffness in the head tube and down tube sections to provide stability and confidence during handling and cornering.
Using a BB386Evo standard bottom bracket, the Magma's airfoil downtube tapers from the head tube to maximise torsional stiffness. Downtube dimensions across all frame sizes are individually scaled for each stiffness level, resulting in consistent riding characteristics.
The stiffness of key sections of the Magma frameset is optimised for efficient power transfer and precise handling – both in terms of geometry and carbon layup details – while other areas are tuned differently to suit the bike's all-around performance. Riding position and frameset flexibility are key to delivering peak performance over long rides.
A key and undisputed goal set by Contador and Basso from the very beginning of the project was to deeply address the Magma's aerodynamic efficiency.
For the Magma to perform at high speeds, it needs to remain stable at a variety of yaw angles, and aerodynamics are crucial to this. Traditionally, racing bikes have been divided into light weight and aerodynamics, but it was essential to combine these two characteristics to make the Magma a faster bike.
While achieving weight reduction was an important goal for the Magma project, it was not the primary focus of development, as balancing the overall riding characteristics was paramount - in many cases, shaving off the last few grams can mean losing structural strength or ride quality.
At the same time, focusing too much on weight figures can lead to shapes that aren't aerodynamically optimized, and after all, most riding is about speed, and that's what you sacrifice.
Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso built numerous prototype frames and underwent extensive testing to find the optimum carbon layup, and the result was the Magma, realizing their dream of building the fastest bike possible with the best handling, ride quality and looks.

Magma is available in six frame sizes to accommodate a wide range of rider heights, and is designed and tested to provide consistent riding characteristics regardless of frame size. Magma is available in two finishes: elegant Glacial Blue or stealth Matte Carbon Black.
